Next Project

​My next project is a follow-up of my first, to explore questions I did not get to answer there. One of these questions includes the transnational circulation of Cantonese media: to what extent is Hong Kong Cantonese a form of hierarchy, or cultural imperialism? How much has the development of this language and culture eradicated diversity? This is why I plan to turn my attention to the variants of Cantonese languages other than the so-called standard Cantonese, by investigating the Cantonese variants used by the island and ocean communities, as well as how these communities and their Cantonese are imagined.
